Welcome!

Thank you for visiting artful embellishments. This is the third year for this blog and I am so happy to keep publishing. I started in 2011 and began with a quilt of the week, this lead to the leaf of the week for my newly designed paper tree that is located on the wall of my garage in 2012.......2013 is going to bring a lot of excitement and positive change. As a personal challenge for 2013, I plan on designing a artist trading card each week to be featured on the blog.
With so many interests, there will be quilting, art quilting, leaves (and more leaves), as well as experiments in thermofax screen printing, fabric dying, and tons of DIY recycle projects. I may even enter that altered fashion scene. To a happy and healthy 2013, may we all find happiness in those things we create....thank you for stoping by artful embellishments.

Ceramics-Too much fun

So I embarked on a full time schedule at Delta this term. I am absolutely having a blast, but it has changed the direction of my art for the time being. For the next 11 weeks I will be doing a lot of painting, ceramics and 3-D design.

Ceramics has been so much fun. Austin and Dustin are in ceramics II and I am able to follow their work, which quite frankly is just amazing.

This first few pictures are of Austin and the bust he created of himself. Just amazing to watch the progress!

Dustin is working diligently. At first I didn't know what he was working on, but loved the intensity......
....and here it comes to life. Simply amazing.
I am so lucky to be able to be in the company of these talented artists.

These remaining tiles are the work of the artists in the ceramics I class. This is my class. No shock to those that know me, the anatomic hearts are mine. After firing, someone's blew up in the kiln, and took out the bottom heart. (The pictures were before firing.) No worries, it was my least favorite and now I get to redo the piece.

One thing that this endeavor has taught me is that there are so many talented young artists out there. They are passionate about what they do and I am lucky enough to be in their company every tuesday and thursday!

Frida and the Day of the Dead Swap

I was fortunate enough to have Bambi ask me to do a Day of the Dead/Frida Kahlo swap. I was so excited. I have done 6 cards with either Frida or skellies. I have never celebrated the day of the dead, but it was fun to research and to use brightly colored materials. Here are my 6 cards and I will be featuring those I receive in the swap in a

ART

I had these large letters that spell ART. It took me a while to figure how to alter their cardboard surfaces. The A was done with the tried and true decoupage, paint, and ephemera. The R with many types of spray paint and stencils.  Finally the T was done with loads of Washi tape. Together an eclectic mix of my favorite word!

Halloween ATC Swap ArtChix

ArtChix graciously sponsored another ATC swap. Gotta love feeding the addiction. This one is the halloween swap! I had so much fun making these cards. I absolutely love halloween and think it is so incredibly fun to decorate in fall colors. I enjoyed putting these 6 cards together for the swap. They are not due for a while so I may do another batch. What better way to get excited about fall than to look at Halloween ATC's.

Upside Down Scallop!

Well, not every project comes out quite right. In my previous post I talked about my upside down scallops. Well here they are! The first picture is how I added them to my design board. They do add a pop of color! So even though not every project follows the plan, sometimes you can have despite the peaks and valleys!
