Welcome!

Thank you for visiting artful embellishments. This is the third year for this blog and I am so happy to keep publishing. I started in 2011 and began with a quilt of the week, this lead to the leaf of the week for my newly designed paper tree that is located on the wall of my garage in 2012.......2013 is going to bring a lot of excitement and positive change. As a personal challenge for 2013, I plan on designing a artist trading card each week to be featured on the blog.
With so many interests, there will be quilting, art quilting, leaves (and more leaves), as well as experiments in thermofax screen printing, fabric dying, and tons of DIY recycle projects. I may even enter that altered fashion scene. To a happy and healthy 2013, may we all find happiness in those things we create....thank you for stoping by artful embellishments.

Week 35 Possibility

The week 35 journal quilt is based on one of my favorite quotations. It is by Marcus Solero "A possibility was born the day you were born and it will live as long as you live." The background was canvas that was painted with acrylic paint. I then used a stencil and altered the appearance with Tulip fabric spray paint and glimmer mist. As you have noticed this is one of my very favorite techniques. I have had the most amazing experience with the Tim Holtz Vagabond. This is a electric die based cutting machine. The dies that can be used with this machine are amazing. Although it is designed for scrapbookers, collage artists, card makers, and mixed media artists, it can cut fabric. The flowers, stem and the birds are all cut with the dies that fit the Tim Holtz machine. I used fabric from old upholstery books. The quotation was printed on paper, distressed with Tim Holtz distress ink and backed with decorative paper. The twine was used to suspend the quotation from the bird. Embroidery thread was used to embellish the flowers. Take this opportunity to brace all of your possibilities.
